HMO’s insure somewhat more than half the American population.
Coverage generally includes a pharmaceutical benefit. Insurers approve
drug claims and provide drug reimbursements through specialized
electronic connections to pharmacy benefit managers (PBM’s).
PTC has recently forged “connection” agreements with
PBM’s that manage drug benefits for approximately 70% of those
insured with HMOs. The company continues to refine online claims
adjudication.
Doctors generally can now dispense through PTC to 60%-90% of their
patients, depending on specialty and payer policy in their region.
The Competition:
There is currently no other drug repackager or distributor offering
physicians a fully automated dispensing system that includes direct
insurance connectivity.
