Manaslu Trek 1998 |
A Nepal trekadventure travel at its best! Namaste,
For an exciting and rewarding vacation consider either a camping or lodge
trek in Nepal. The always popular Everest treks, Annapurna treks or Langtang trek or
off-the-beaten path treks to Manaslu, Kangchenjunga, Makalu, Dhorpatan, Rolwaling, Mustang
or Dolpo are possibilities. Peter Owens has been leading and organizing treks and overland
tours to Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan, India and Tibet every year since 1976. Of the over 100
trips that he has personally led, 33 were for the Sierra Club. Peter is a retired
professor. On treks all you have to carry is a day pack. Either porters or pack animals
carry your duffel. Our trips are priced much lower than other companies. You are not
paying for fancy color advertising and brochures nor for high USA overhead.
Peter Owens' Asian Treks, located in Kathmandu Nepal, is affiliated with Crystal Mountain Treks
in Nepal. We have successfully been running our trips since the events
of September 11. Due to the Maoist insurgency in Nepal, we reduced the
area where we run treks to the Everest, Langtang, Annapurna, Mustang and
Manaslu areas in 2005 and 2006. A ceasefire was declared in April 2006 and
after lengthy negotiations a peace accord between the government and
Maoists and a formal declaration of a cessation of armed conflict,
signed by both sides, occurred in the last week of November 2006. We are now prepared to
run treks to all regions in Nepal open for trekking. 2008 is the last year we will organize treks. After 2008 alumni of past treks can contact me
as to the availability in KTM of staff they have used previously.
This web page will exist through Apr 2009. |

Our trips are environmentally responsible and culturally sensitive. Starting in 1996
profits from our trips are being used to subsidize solar lighting systems of Lotus Energy and smokeless stoves and chimneys in
the remote village houses of our staff. Thirty-five solar lighting and nine stoves and
chimney installations have already been completed. All trek staff is covered by insurance
against illness and accidents. Educational financial aid is provided to the children
and/or siblings of our trek staff with an emphasis on encouraging girls not just boys to
attend school. All profits are spent in Nepal with guides, kitchen help and porters
sharing in profits in addition to their salary. On our Web site you can:
