CONGRESSMAN XAVIER BECERRA   SENATOR RON S. CALDERON

Xavier Becerra is a U.S. Congressman, dedicated to promoting issues affecting industries critical to the economic vitality of Southern California, such as health care, high technology, entertainment, and stimulating free, yet fair, trade. As vice chair of the House Democratic Caucus, he wields a strong voice in House leadership, helping to drive the legislative decision making process. He is ranking member of the Ways and Means Committee, which is responsible for formulating our nation’s tax, Social Security, Medicare, trade and income security laws. He is also a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, of which he once served as chairman.

 

Ronald Calderon is a California State Senator, dedicated to balancing the state budget, strengthening state and local infrastructure, and protecting consumer rights. He chairs the Banking Finance and Insurance Committee, the select Committee on Film and Television Industries, and the select Committee on International Business Trade. He is a member of the select Committee on the Alameda Corridor, the Joint Committee on the Arts, the Senate Select Committee on Surplus Property, the Energy, Utilities and Communications Committees, and the Revenues and the Economy Committee. He is a member of the California Film Commission, promoting the state’s film industry. Previously, he was a two-term California State Assemblyman.

     
SENATOR GILBERT CEDILLO   ALEXIS GARCIA

Gilbert Cedillo is a California State Assemblyman best known for championing the issues of the working class and immigrant communities, and for his commitment to passing legislation allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses. A lifelong resident of Los Angeles, his passions also extend to issues of homelessness, transportation, access to health care, and veterans’ issues, among many others. Previously, he was a California State Senator who sat on the Senate Rules Committee, and was a California State Assemblyman, where he became Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services and served as Assistant Majority Leader.

He has an unparalleled expertise in identifying global financing sources and securing innovative distribution deals around the world. Previously, he practiced entertainment law at Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, and O’Melveny & Myers, and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Entertainment Law Review, Business Editor of the UCLA Law Review, and Coordinating Editor of the Chicano Law Review.

     
EVANGELINE GRIEGO   FLAVIO MORALES

Evangeline Griego is a long time independent filmmaker and media activist. Her company, About Time Productions, in association with Red Envelope Entertainment (Netflix) produced Chevolution, a documentary about the iconic image of Che Guevara. As director, Evangeline just completed the documentary God Willing (2011 national broadcast). Previously, she directed the award winning documentary, Paño Arte: Images From Inside, Border Visions/Visiones Fronterizos and the Breathless in LA segment of the environmental series, Sierra Club Chronicles. Evangeline's other producing credits include award-winning documentaries Sir! No Sir!, Calavera Highway, and the PBS series, The New Americans. She founded the Silver Lake Film Festival in Los Angeles.
  Flavio Morales is the senior vice president of programming and production at mun2, overseeing both west coast and east coast production, as well as managing the production team. Previously, he was vice president of programming, supervising all programming strategy and on-air content for the network. Under his leadership, mun2’s creative content has received extensive industry recognition, including a Peabody Award. Prior to joining mun2, Flavio was director of programming and music for LATV, of which he was a founding member. He was honored with the 2008 NAMIC Vision Award, which recognizes the cable industry’s commitment to diversity.

Frances Negrón-Muntaner, Chair, is an award-winning filmmaker, writer, and scholar. In 2008, the United Nations' Rapid Response Media Mechanism recognized her as a “global expert” in the areas of mass media and Latin/o American culture and politics. Frances has published several books, including Sovereign Acts and Boricua Pop: Puerto Ricans and the Latinization of American Culture. Her film credits include For the Record: Guam and World War II, Brincando el Charco: Portrait of a Puerto Rican and AIDS in the Barrio. Currently, she is completing the documentary Regarding Vieques. She is a NALIP founding Board member, a 3-year board chair, and 2009 conference co-chair. Frances teaches at Columbia University and is a recipient of Ford, Truman, Scripps Howard, Rockefeller, and Pew fellowships.
  Rick Ramírez is senior vice president of targeted marketing at Warner Bros. Pictures. Previously, he was vice president of marketing for Fox Entertainment Group where he was instrumental in positioning Fox as a leader in multicultural marketing across all brands (New Release, Catalogue, Acquisitions, Direct-to-Video and TV), and delivering incremental revenue and market share growth. Prior to joining Fox, Rick was vice president of Phil Roman Entertainment, where he managed development, production and business affairs for animated and live-action television series, and motion picture projects. He serves on the board of directors of the LA Urban League and on the advisory board of Real Medicine Foundation.
